Academic Year 2017/18

A waiting list is currently being held for students wanting to join us for the Full time Land Based Studies course in September 2017.  We have now moved into our new location at Wormingford, Essex and will be able to confirm further courses and accreditation later in the Spring.  These courses re for students aged 16-19 and are particularly relevant for students who are unable to cope in larger colleges and facilities.

BTEC Level 1 - Land Based Studies

This course includes Horticulture, some Arboriculture, Fishery, Landscape, including Construction and Mechanisation.   It is a very practical course and much of the time is spent outdoors, with minimal classroom time.

You therefore must be happy to work outdoors, and be able to cope in a variety of areas, including woodland, and in the garden and workshops. Everything to do with the Land is included in this course, with a choice of units to be covered.  There are several base units which are compulsory, however, others are subject to choice.  If you like being hands on, and outdoors, and are not yet sure if you want to concentrate on construction, gardening, forestry or environment & conservation, then this is an ideal course for you.

Any students who have not yet achieved a Grade C at GCSE or Functional Skills Level 2 Maths and/or English qualification will also be required to work towards obtaining these qualifications.

See the qualification pages for more detailed information or contact us on 01787 228269 or by email to: info@abbertonruraltraining.org

Future courses:

We are working hard towards providing Mixed Trades Construction as quickly as possible, which we hope to be able to also provide during the next academic year.

We are also working towards additional full time courses.  All of the course elements shown are included already either in our skills programme or within one of the full time courses shown above.  For more information please contact us.
